MXF to ProRes for FCP Mac, convert HD MXF videos to ProRes for FCP

MXF is a container or wrapper format and widely used by digital camcorders like Canon, Sony, Panasonic, etc. The recording format used in these camcorders incorporates MPEG-2 video with bitrates up to 50 Mbit/s and 16-bit linear PCM audio.

The file extension for MXF files is « .mxf ». The Macintosh File Type Code registered with Apple for MXF files is « mxf « , including a trailing space. CinemaDNG (intended by Adobe and others to be an open file format for digital cinema files) exploits MXF as one of its options for holding a sequence of raw video images.

If you are a Mac users, are you troubled with how to edit MXF files with FCP as below?

Q1: Any good program to covert MXF video to Apple ProRes for editing in Final Cut Pro X?

I am a person who deals much with video everyday. I have just bought a new Canon XF305 camcorder which produces very good quality video in the MXF format. However, this kind of video seems not favored by FCP X.

Q2: I am planning on shooting a short film in AVC-I 100 and had a question:

I know that I can transcode my AVC-I footage into FCP to make it ProRes 422. But I also found a plug-in to edit MXF files natively on FCP. Would I gain any visual quality if I used MXF over ProRes 422?

So, I have to look for a workaround for finding a tool for converting MXF to Apple ProRes. Luckily, a friend of mine recommended me a MXF to ProRes Converter Mac which he tried very great. I download the free trial and found it’s very easy to use, and can convert Canon, Sony, JVC, Panasonic MXF videos to Apple ProRes 422 (.mov), Apple ProRes 4444 (.mov), etc on Mac for FCP.

Then I bought it without any hesitating. If you have the same problem with me, maybe you can try it. Learn the details about how to import MXF to FCP! Hope to help you.
